COSAR's Milestone Birthday Recap
More than 100 supporters showed up to COSAR’s 70th birthday celebration yesterday.
COSAR was founded 1954 and is British Columbia’s oldest all-volunteer search and rescue organization.
“We’re here today not just to celebrate those currently volunteering, but to honour the volunteers and supporters who have been rescuing people over the last seven decades,” said COSAR President Brad Trites.
Loyal Wooldridge, BC NDP Candidate for Kelowna Centre and former RDCO Chair, was also on hand.
“The impact of the unpaid professionals of Central Okanagan Search and Rescue is truly amazing. Having saved hundreds of lives each year for the past 70 years – their unwavering dedication embodies the spirit of selflessness and resilience…. It can’t be understated the contribution COSAR provides to keep our region safe in times of crisis.”
Blair Ireland, a long-time supporter of COSAR and Mayor of Lake Country, added: “What COSAR does for our region is nothing short of extraordinary. Their service is invaluable, and we are fortunate to have them as a cornerstone of safety in our community.”
Although COSAR, a nonprofit organization, wasn’t expecting any birthday presents, local residents Ray Imbeau and partner Barb Kitz donated $1,000 that they collected with recyclable cans from the backcountry, Big White donated $5,000, and FOSS donated $2,000. Thank you!
